Introduction
Battle Royale games have taken the gaming world by storm, and two of the biggest players in the market are Fortnite and Apex Legends. These two games have created a whole new gaming experience and have become incredibly popular among gamers. But the question we all want to answer is, which game is more popular?
In this blog post, we will compare the popularity of Fortnite and Apex Legends based on various factors, including the number of players, social media engagement, and revenue generated.
Number of Players
When it comes to the number of players, both Fortnite and Apex Legends have a massive following. According to Statista, Fortnite had over 350 million registered players as of May 2021. On the other hand, Apex Legends had 100 million registered players as of April 2021, as per their official Twitter account.
While Fortnite has a significantly larger player base, we cannot ignore the fact that Apex Legends hit 100 million players in a comparatively shorter span since it was released in February 2019. Nevertheless, Fortnite is still leading the race, with a more massive share of the market when it comes to player numbers.
Social Media Engagement
Apart from having a massive number of players, social media engagement is also a significant factor in measuring the popularity of any game, as it shows how much the game is talked about online. We looked at the social media accounts of both games to compare their reach.
As of the time of writing, Fortnite has 31.2 million Instagram followers, 10.2 million Twitter followers, and 21.5 million YouTube subscribers. Conversely, Apex Legends has 1.7 million Instagram followers, 1.1 million Twitter followers, and 1.25 million YouTube subscribers. These figures suggest that Fortnite has a significantly higher social media presence and significantly more followers across all platforms.
Revenue
Finally, we compared the revenue generated by both games. As per data from Sensor Tower, Fortnite had grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide in 2021's first half across both Apple's App Store and Google Play, which is a 67 percent year-on-year increase. However, Apex Legends had managed just $389 million, a 4.4 percent year-on-year increase, during the same period.
Though Apex Legends is still making a hefty profit, it's clear that Fortnite is generating significantly more revenue.
Conclusion
Based on the data presented above, we can conclude that Fortnite is still the more popular game in the Battle Royale genre compared to Apex Legends. While Apex Legends has hit significant milestones in terms of player numbers and revenue, Fortnite has a much larger player base and social media following.
However, we cannot overlook Apex Legends' impressive performance in the gaming industry, and it continues to gain more traction among the audience, suggesting that the competition may soon become more intense.
Regardless of all that, we hope you enjoy playing whichever game you like more and keep having fun!
